Joined WVU as Professor and Chairman of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in 1985. Developed several large research programs at WVU including the Center for Alternative Fuels, Engines and Emissions and served as Director from 1990 to present. Funding for the research programs of the Center is approximately $5 million per year and totals over $58 M since 1990. Served as Chairman of the Department from 1985 to 2001.

Published over 80 archival journal and 130 conference publications. Served as major advisor for 25 masters and Ph.D. students. Registered Professional Engineer. Certified Safety Professional by National Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Member or past member of 12 professional societies and 10 governmental councils and industrial advisory boards. Previously employed as Professor of Engineering at Georgia Tech and Clemson University. Served as Sr. Technical Manager for Texcom Co., MVL Inc., and as senior Presidential appointee in the US Department of Labor.
