John E. Sneckenberger retired in May 2003 from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering after 36 years as a faculty member. He was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus in June 2004. Recently he has been a part-time Research Professor in the department. His recent faculty responsibilities included being Director of the Projects with Industry Program, which is sponsored by the Energy Efficiency Program of the West Virginia Development Office. In this capacity, he provided technical assistance to West Virginia industry on energy utilization as well as related quality and environmental issues. His industrial and government experience included Structural Dynamics Engineer, US Corp of Engineers/Waterways Experiment Station, Vicksburg, MS, Summer 1993; Mechanical Engineer, E.I. DuPont Co./Washington Works, Parkersburg, WV, Summers 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988; Vibrations Engineer, IBM Corp./Federal Systems Division, Manassa, VA, Summer 1983; and Safety Engineer, US DHHS/NIOSH/Division of Safety Research, Morgantown, WV, Summers 1980, 1981 and 1982. His work as a consultant includes Bucci Chambers & Willis L.C., Charleston, WV, Vehicle Noise Expert, 1995; Nelson Industries, Inc., Stoughton, WI, Acoustical Design Consultant, 1978 to 1993; E.I. DuPont, Washington, WV, Mechanical Design Consultant, 1984 to 1989; Modern Industrial Heating, Inc. Richardson, TX, Structural Design Advisor, 1981; and Attorney at Law, Morgantown, WV, Mechanical Failure Expert, 1981.

Contributed to the Academic Development of the Design and Automation Component of the Undergraduate and Graduate Curriculum.

Serve as Member of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity (HFH).
Serve as Member of the Board of Directors for Riverfront Museum, Inc (RMI).
Serve as President of the Suncrest Neighborhood Association, Inc (SNA).
Served on Advisory Council of the University Honors Program.
Served as Member of the Board of Directors for the Society for Glass Science and Practices (SGSP).
Hosted SGSP Quarterly Meeting, Promoting State and Federal Affilitions.
Maintained the SGSP Website, including virtual showcases.
Conducted Applied Process Research in laser glass cutting.
