Tom I-P. Shih, Professor and Chair, Iowa State University

Dr. Shih grew up in Morgantown and took courses at WVU while as a junior and senior at Morgantown High School (Math 14, Math 15, and Math 16). He attended WVU formerly as a student in 1971-72 (majoring in AE in Fall 1971 and ME in Spring 1972). He finished his undergraduate degree in Taiwan as his parents went back to Taiwan. He completed his MS and PhD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1977 and 1981 respectively.

He has worked in the industry as a Mechanical Engineer for Lewis Research Center at Cleveland, Ohio from 1981 to 1982. He started his teaching career at University of Florida, Gainesville where he served as an Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor between the years 1993 to 1998. He was appointed Professor and taught at Carnegie Mellon University and Michigan State university before joining Iowa State University in July 2003.
